Mighty Texas Dog Walk

Mighty Texas Dog Walk Breaks Record -
But Was it Enough?

Our 12th Annual Mighty Texas Dog Walk was our most successful ever!

Mighty Texas Dog Walk

When we started planning, the English world record was 10,762 dogs. With our total coming in at 11, 256 dogs, we broke the record!

Further research shows the English site posting a new total of 17427 dogs. Seriously? Great North Dog Walk is their site.

Looks like Texas is going to have to fight fire with fire. What's that mean? An all day festival just like those brazen Brits do! We're already starting plans for next year. We want a festival in the park, hopefully Zilker, which means more time to visit vendors and work up an appetite for all of that delicious pizza, ice cream and cupcakes, incorporate the route as part of the festival and also add some live music.

Making a great thing even greater? You bet!

We have so many people to thank for this year's success:

  • Our hardworking staff and volunteers
  • Our graduates who appeared on numerous radio and tv stations to talk about how their Hearing and Service Dogs have changed their lives
  • Austin Mayor Pro Tem Mike Martinez, our illustrious Grand Marshall, who rolled up his sleeves to help us navigate the permitting red tape behind the scenes
  • Austin Police Department, Motorcycle Special Events Team and Austin EMS for keeping us all safe
  • The veterinary clinics who not only sponsored booths, but were on hand for any canine first aid:
    • Central Texas Veterinary Specialty Hospital - they also gave out tote bags and futuristic dog bowls
    • Animal Emergency Clinic of Central Texas
    • Capital Area Veterinary Specialists
    • Austin Vet Care
    • Brodie Animal Hospital
    • Heart of Texas Veterinary Specialty Center
  • ALL of the fantastic Sponsors both returning and new who made this event possible and made sure our walkers got bags and bags of goodies!
  • YOU, of course. You came, you saw, you walked!
