Four new Service Dogs teams spent their first week together learning basic behaviors culminating in navigating a special obstacle course at our July Team Training class.

This class included recipients from Austin, Georgetown, Shertz and Wimberley. We have now moved the dogs into their new homes and started weekly In-home training sessions. These will continue for 13 weeks and include working in each recipient’s workplace and local restaurants and stores.

Our July Class included two Successor Service Dogs for recipients whose prior Service Dogs had passed away.  These pairings were additionally emotional as recipients adjusted to life with their new Service Dogs while nurturing thoughts and feelings about their original dogs.

Our recipients worked very hard throughout the week.  Our celebratory luncheon that Friday was one of the best ever with parents, siblings and friends joining us to celebrate everyone’s accomplishments and new beginnings.

Our newest Service Dogs Teams are:

Amy Fey and Watson
Schertz
Sponsor: The Perry and Ruby Stevens Foundation
Amy is a teacher, so Watson will be joining her in school ~ elementary school!

Morgan Pewitt and Denali
Austin
Sponsor: Sharon Schindler
Morgan works in customer service, so Denali will have a cozy cubicle corner at work.

Sheila English and Noelle
Georgetown
Sponsor: The Perry and Ruby Stevens Foundation
Sheila, also is a teacher.  Noelle will be so much more than the teacher’s pet!

David DiTraglia and Astro
Wimberley
Sponsor: Beverly Wickham
David is an astronomer and has a giant telescope in his backyard. What better match than Astro!

Enjoy this  Team Training video and see if you can spot a fifth “Service Dog” on the obstacle course.  We’ll mail a t-shirt to the first person who emails us with that fifth dog’s name!  Send your answer to webmaster@servicedogs.org.
