Trust Replaced Uncertainty

By Jessica Davis, SDI Graduate, Hearing Dog program

Travel is my passion. It’s how I learn, connect, and show up fully in my life and work. For a long time, travel carried real risk for me. Airports are built around sound, and missing a cue can have serious consequences. Even with a cochlear implant, I had to remain constantly alert to feel safe.Flying with my new Hearing Dog Abba changed that, but it took courage. Choosing to travel with my disability visible and to trust a Hearing Dog by my side meant believing that preparation would hold when it mattered most.

That confidence came from the trainers at Service Dogs, Inc. They trained Abba and me together. Week after week, they guided us through real life car rides, crowded spaces, trains, rain, and wind, etc; until trust replaced uncertainty. Their consistency and belief in us made the difference.

These photos capture our first business trip together, flying from Dallas to Toronto. What appears to be a simple flight represents safety, independence, and freedom restored.

Because of Service Dogs, Inc. and its donors, I can travel with confidence and live fully.

About Abba: Abba was found locked in a crate abandoned at a strip center in Houston. We adopted her from Harris County Pets despite her testing positive for heartworms. This delayed her training for months. Being such a rock star (ahem, soft rock), she rapidly advanced to the top of her class, breaking training records.Service Dogs, Inc. relies on your donations to train and provide our dogs to clients 100% free of charge. Will you consider a tax deductible contribution to create more stories like Jessica and Abba?
