Canine Support

Canine Support is an entry level support position within Service Dog, Inc’s Training Department emphasizing the care and welfare of the dogs. Responsibilities include maintaining clean and organized kennels, providing exercise and enrichment opportunities for the dogs in training, observing the dogs for any signs of medical or behavioral concerns and reporting them to the Director of Training. The Canine Support personnel will develop an understanding of dog behavior, dog handling, and enrichment procedures.

Part Time

Duties

  • Follow established cleaning procedures to maintain cleanliness of kennels and play yards. Including cleaning kennel runs, emptying garbage, washing dishes, doing laundry, and scooping play yards.

  • Follow established procedures for letting dogs into and out of kennel runs and play yards.

  • Provide all dogs in training with daily exercise and approved enrichment opportunities.

  • Provide all dogs in training with opportunities to relieve themselves on a regular basis.

  • Feed all dogs in training in accordance with each dog’s feeding chart.

  • Ensure that all dogs in training have access to clean water at all times.

  • Observe all dogs in training for changes in health or behavior and report any concerns to the Manager of Training in a timely manner.

  • Report any maintenance concerns in the kennels and play yards to the Facilities Manager in a timely manner.

  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe working environment for the animals, staff, volunteers, recipients, and guests.

  • Support volunteers to promote a positive experience and an appropriate use of SDI resources.

  • Restock supplies in the kennels as needed and report when supplies are running low to the appropriate staff members.

  • Communicate effectively and openly with all SDI employees.

  • Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays

  • Good verbal communication skills

  • Ability to follow established procedures and work as a member of a team

  • Ability to work independently

  • Access to reliable transportation

About Us

Service Dogs, Inc. (SDI) is a 36-year-old nonprofit that adopts shelter dogs and trains them as Assistance Dogs free of charge. SDI operates from a 6-acre campus in Dripping Springs, Texas, near Austin.
