Then & Now

Vogue, Encore, Banjo & Lyric

Some of our dogs already have Sponsors who have donated the complete cost of their training from shelter adoption to graduation with a lient.

Our other dogs still need your support. We invite you to donate towards the training of any of the four dogs in the video linked below. We matched all of them with clients from our Wait List. Now, all we need is you.

Deputy Banjo

"If you've got PTSD, rub dirt in it.

That used to be the approach to law officer mental health.

Gillespie County Sheriff Chris Ayala prioritizes mental health for his staff. He recently visited Kendall County Sheriff Al Auxier who has long championed mental health. Sheriff Auxier shared the benefits of SDI First Responder Facility Dog Renee, who's been on the job for four years partnered with Deputy Michelle Quade, their Mental Health Officer.

Sheriff Ayala established Deputy Wayne Hudson as his department's Mental Health Officer and they applied to SDI for their own First Responder Facility Dog.

Introducing Banjo and Deputy Hudson

We were impressed with Deputy Hudson's experience, dedication and enthusiasm about getting a dog. In April, we introduced him and his wife Dana to several of our First Responder Facility Dogs. As you can see above, he and Banjo struck an immediate bond.

Next steps: 5-day Team Training course at SDI, followed by moving Banjo in with Deputy Hudson and 3 months of weekly training sessions at the Sheriff's Office and in the community.

Deputy Banjo, we're proud of you!

We adopted Banjo from the Williamson County Animal Shelter. Please consider a gift to support Banjo's training supporting First Responder wellness.
